"It's April ALREADY", said my 18 year old cousin.
Yes, it's that time of the year when nature awakens, as well as prom night panic.
You know where and when will party be, but for the love of God WHAT to wear? This conversation reminded me of my prom, and the eternal question: How can someone who loves alternative style find suitable outfit for this occasion?
In times of the reign of instant-fashion horrors, cloned looks and popularity of "idols" with distorted sense of aesthetic (and many other things)- it's hard.
Sure, it is much easier than that it was 10 or 20 years ago- today we have many clothes/shoes alternative brands, we have internet to find them, we can order online. We don't care about what's popular and we will do it our way. But, there are still some issues and mistakes that should be avoided. I'll try to point some of these out.
1) Start planning on time
From now on you have few moths for your finals, preparing for college and for planning your look. Start planning as soon as possible-contact your sylists, tailor, hairstylist, and other people you'll need.
2) Materials and color
How many times have you seen beautiful dress made of some material that made it look like something that magician's assistant would wear in circus? Fake silk, cheapest lace and fake leather are big NO. Thin and too shiny plush, materials that easy get wrinkled, too.
Be aware of weather conditions for that day. You don't want sweaty stains on your clothes, or to be cold all night.
Choose colors wisely, never have the same color as your hair-it leads to disaster. Also, never combine several shades of color or several materials of the same shade, you will look like miserably drawn cartoon.
Chose colors that compliment your tan, hair and eyes color.
Go for quality. Buy or sew-it's up to you.
3) Design and movement
Your taste and wishes are primary, but don't buy something if it does not compliment your body type. You want to feel nice and celebrate, not to struggle for air or be afraid of suddenly becoming naked after your too tight clothes get torn. Choose something that fits you and features the best. Shoes should be comfortable, so don't go for too high heals if you never worn them before. Do not compromise-if they don't fit well or you don't feel stable, don't wear them.
4) Don't exaggerate
It would be wise not to to exaggerate. You are someone who likes unconventional aesthetic, and your own style- but you are going somewhere to steal a spotlight and be belle du jour , not to shock "ordinary" people.
Don't go with too much warpaint on, there can be only one Alice Cooper.
5) Hair and make-up
If you don't have skills, go to professional or let someone who does it good help you. You have so much options, colors, hair accessories... But don't get hysterical and drastically change your hair day before, without being sure you really want it.
6) Accessories
"Better less than mess"- I agree with this old saying. One impressive piece will complete your look, so go for necklace, or earrings, or bracelet - not everything! If worn, other pieces should be discrete.
7) Use your imagination, and be YOU
The most important thing is to avoid being another clone. This is your night and you will remember it for the rest of your life. Make it count! And ENJOY.
For example, this is young LARPer from Belgrade- he went to his prom night in full armor last year and he got in all newspapers after someone saw his photos on social media! People reacted very positively, and loved this original idea.

Well, that's all I could remember for now, I hope these advises will be helpful. If you want unique accessories for this occasion, contact us via our Facebook page: nomen.jewelry, or email: nomen.jewelry@gmail.com and we will offer you various styles & colors of jewelry.
